$5M Financial Advisory Firm — Planning for Succession

The challenge

A successful financial advisor with over $200M in assets under management and $100M in net new assets needed to set up the business to pass to multiple children. The owner was leading a new strategic growth initiative and building out the sales team, and wanted to professionalize the firm and gain clearer insight into how it was operating. An executive team to handle day-to-day operations was just beginning to take shape, but it was still inexperienced.

What was at risk

Without change, the owner would keep working 60+ hours a week — meeting with clients, running the firm, and reviewing reports — with no clear path to step back or hand the business to the next generation.

Our role

We started with strategic planning, then monthly executive-development and operating sessions. After 18 months, we stepped into a fractional executive role.

What we did

Formalized roles and compensation plans, developed disciplined priorities, and instituted consistent meeting rhythms. Built a weekly ownership dashboard covering every important KPI area, along with a 60-day cash flow forecast for greater insight into performance.

The result
